For trees you prune the bottom growth to promote the growth to the top. For bushes you just prune the top to promote growth from the bottom.

The lovely shrub is zoned for 3-7. Beautiful evergreen with blue-green foliage that will keep the color year round. The wichita blue juniper will grow up to10-15 feet tall and 4-6 wide. Also Known as the Dapple Willow. 

It is known for its variegated young leaves and red color

on the stems. It will have pinkish-white blooms in
